Old Taiwanese Singer Teresa Teng (Dèng Lìjūn)

Teresa Teng is one of the oldest Taiwanese pop stars. She would be about 58 now but she died of asthma while in Chiang Mai Thailand a long time ago. Here is a classic video of one of her songs (the title is unknown to me). It’s nice to see a non modern MTV style (this video seems like it predates MTV even), and you can get a glimpse into the older Taiwan as she walks around in traffic and other places.

Truth be told. the video reminds me of the “shows” that are really advertisements for foreign brides that play on TV in Taiwan.

Teresa is truly amazing! I listen to her song alot at YouTube and I recently found a new performer Yuquan Chen 陈玉泉 she is the next best thing….I have not heard anyone as good. Check her out at YouTube.

I listened to Yuquan Chen’s ‘酒醉的探戈’ is was indeed brilliant, I was pleasantly surprise because she sang better than most other TT imitators, famous or not. Still, no one can surpass Deng LiJun.
