Taiwan Tourism: Lover’s Wharf Kaohsiung

Last weekend I do what I normally do. I jump into the car and start driving. I’m not so sure where I am going to end up, but so far, I have always found something interesting. So, my final destination was Lover’s Wharf in Kaohsiung. A bit of an odd name for the place, as it is a tourist trap catering to children. It was loaded with people out enjoying the awesome fall weather in Taiwan (this lasts for all of about 2 weeks). There are lots of vendors, snacks, and rides to amuse yourself with.

I was surprised that there were a few electric mini scooters available for children to ride. I would have died to have one of those to ride at that age.

You can see in the pictures that one of the scooter rides vendors didn’t even give the children helmets.

The other one was funny, as it did give the kids helmets and a 10 second instruction on what to do, and you can see that the adults riding with the kids are not wearing helmets, which is the exact opposite of what happens on the streets of current day Taiwan (children riding helmetless on scooters).

Then there were kids and adults riding around these shark cars. I almost got run over by some stupid 8 year old that was losing his mind while driving (of course you need to cross the area where they are driving! It just wouldn’t be as much fun if there were no thoughtless danger involved).

The last pics are of a kid that is pissed because the Disney rip off ride Di Shi Ni (which is the pin yin for Disney) sucked, and a pair of wooden sandals made for two people (or beasts from middle earth).

How do you get to lovers wharf? just follow the 17 South from Tainan or North from Kaohsiung until you see the brown sign for it. It is very easy to find…
