Funny Taiwan: Marijuana on Handbags and T Shirts

It’s been happening in Taiwan for years now. Pot leaves are showing up in the damnedest places, and now they can be found on purses too. I always find it amusing when students come rolling into the bushiban with their pro marijuana shirts on. Makes me feel like I am back home, except for the fact that most of them honestly don’t know what they are promoting. I snapped this shot quickly at a night market recently. I took the other photo of the Marijuana girl in a hip clothing store near a head shop in Tainan…

  1. There used to be a “Marihuana” restaurant near my house in Taichung. Here’s a pic.

  2. people just think its cool.
they take some random thing they see in teh western culture and just think its’ cool. So they put it on t-shirts and stuff. Once people (specailly young people) see is in night markets and all over the palce, they’d just think it’s a new trend or some latest fasion stuff….

  3. @ Naruwan

Shat store is great! Totally reminds me of happy pizza in Cambodia. I assume there were no “Happy” foods or drinks being sold at the Marihuana store in Taiwan.

    @ Sherry

Do you think Taiwanese youth think Marijuana is bad and should be illegal?

  4. I thought it was kind of weird seeing the cannabis leaves on clothing in Taiwan, since Taiwan and Chinese cultures are very anti-drug since the introduction of opium. I think Sherry is right though about taking a random thing from another culture and thinking it’s cool. It’s like seeing some American wearing a shirt with Chinese words on it and a dragon.
