Eating a betelnut: First timers experience

Here is a video I shot on Fili’s camera while at the Lu Er Men Matsu temple. It is of him eating his first (and last) betelnut. I thought since I took a similar video of my other friends you could check out both videos and get a feel for how people react to eating betelnuts. Fili doesn’t like them, but my other friends do. I personally thin they taste bad but not bad enough to make me puke or anything.

  1. As an expat (but Italian in this case ) i can tell you what my oioinpn is for shorta) I don’t think Japan will let the US or Taiwan get it involved into a war UNLESS FORCED.b) The US will intervene together with Australia although the political line of the US as regards to Taiwan over the last years has been pretty fickle, with then need to balance good diplomatic relations with China and the need to protect Taiwan and the mutual strategic and economic interests they share.c) China doesn’t have any interest to start any war. Although powerful it’s right in the middle of a development stage, comparable to the English Industrial Revolution in the 1800s. They are scattered around the world taking resources from wherever they can and they are never enough (Esepcially Africa). NO ONE wants to start a war over a small island, shaking markets, reducing production, blocking development and causing huge political and diplomatic scars that would cause huge damages to chinese exports (and therefore unemployment, internal issues etc). The real problem about Taiwan is that the UN stick with denying the independence of what, under all aspects, is a independent country, in order not to upset China (and the markets). Should UN accept Taiwan as an independent nation, all these issues would disappear in snap because it would mean that no one supports China and its idea of taking back the island.
