An Ping Tainan Taiwan Parks and Statues

Today we stumbled upon some huge statues in An Ping, Tainan county. It was overcast, and drizzled on us a few times but it was still a pleasant day, and it was even nicer to see these parks. As always, it would be great to have had a guide, or even a Chinese speaker to read the signs that say what the names of the statues and parks are.

*******UPDATE*******

The statue of the lady is Lin Mo Niang, some incarnation of the sea goddess Matsu. She takes care of sailors while out in the abyss. The other statue, the one that isn’t a person, believe it or not is a chicken. Not sure why, but that is what my high school kids told me.

The first huge installment we saw was a building, wrapped in an artistic, protective fence. Then it was on to find the statues.

There were a lot of people playing pick up soccer of all things there.

That is the second time in the past month I have seen that, once at the beach and once here. Maybe soccer is making a comeback in Taiwan.

The second statue was of a lady who must have been very special. She had the largest bust I have ever seen in person.

Her statue was even bigger, and I tried to make it seem dramatic with the yellow behind her.

I stopped to see a huge flock (?) of egrets scouring for lunch at a huge patch of recently churned up soil near the An Ping Gu Bao and old street and in an odd turn of events, someone had scratched this websites name into some freshly laid concrete. What are the odds…?

  1. Those protective covers actually look like they are supposed to be part of the sculpture. I think they’re an improvement!
  2. p.s. is there a comments feed available?
  3. There should be a way to opt in to getting an email for all new comments. If that isn’t good enough I think the comment feed is:

  4. That’s great. I couldn’t find it on your main page. I much prefer a comments feed to notification by email. Maybe your other subscribers do too (?) Thanks for your help!
  5. That’s a good point. Feedburner says I have like 60 subscribers so I wonder if offering a comments feed would encourage them to comment.
