2008 Taiwan Music Festivals Update: Spring Scream, May Jam, and Peacefest
Spring Scream Rat
I have been getting a bit pissed off at the Spring Scream management this year because all of the emails I sent them never got any response. This site is one of the best archives of information and photos for Spring Scream and has been doing at our own cost for some time. I have been trying to get some free tickets and other support from Spring Scream to continue the ‘coverage’. I hope they will respond with a nice offer for us this year or there will be no way to cover it, especially since i won’t be playing there.
They are still accepting late applications but keep in mind that is exactly what they are.
Spring Scream 2008 will take place on April 4,5,6. The venue will be the Erluanbi Lighthouse in Kenting National Park, the very southern most tip of Taiwan. Advanced tickets are in the late stages of their sliding scale prices The earlier you buy the more you will save on ticket price. You can still save a few bucks for buying now.

Tainan May Jam:
The Tainan May Jam is accepting applications from bands to participate in this years event. The format for applying is a little different this year, as Axel will accept MP3’s, photos, and band info via email. Bands will still need to pay an NT 1000 deposit if they are accepted to play.
There has been much debate over the deposit in the past, but the bottom line is if you want to play, then you got to pay it. The money will be promptly returned after you play (I have been through this process and know 100% that this money will be returned to you ). Why have it you ask? Because the May Jam is a one stage operation and it is a way to help ensure that bands don’t flake out and just not show up.
The 2008 Tainan May Jam will be on the 3rd & 4th of May.
Here are the items bands need to send Axel via email:
The name of the band, how many members, names of band members, kind of instruments you play, a recent picture, and three recent recordings (hopefully in mp3 format). The deadline for applications is April 24th.

2008 Taiwan Peacefest:
The Peacefest will be back this year. The dates are from June 13th - June 15th. Their website has been being updated for a while so the information is not very clear, but they say they are accepting performance requests now. You can email theam @ tunez[@at]hopingforhoping.com for performance requests and contact[@at}hopingforhoping.com for any other inquiries.
I’ll have to admit I am a little disappointed in the speed at which they do things. Let me explain a bit. This is a charity event, and the proceeds go to several charitable causes. I helped arrange a show in Tainan (with the help of the bands that donated their time and pay that night) that helped raise NT 8,000 dollars for the Peace Festival. This was in June of last year and their has been no word of how much money was raised or if the money has made any impact in any way. I assume things are on the level, but realistically I thing there needs to be a quicker turnaround time regarding the disclosure of the amount of the donations raised by the festival. The Peacefest has been growing steadily each year and has a great reputation. I hope you guys will get the info out there sooner. It is IMPORTANT to me to know what’s going on.

Hope you get some tickets.
Thanks Lief. I hope they realize the good press I have been giving them over the years.
All the information about the amount of money earned each year, and which charities the money was donated to, is on the website http://www.hopingforhoping.com. It’s pretty clear, you just have to point and click your mouse.
Hi John
You are absolutely right about the peacefest being slow with getting the numbers/totals out. We are aware that we need to improve both in terms of speed and transparency, and we are making a big effort this year to do just that. Supporters deserve to know where their money is going, and we want them to see they are making a positive difference in the world by supporting the festival. The numbers are up on the website now, and we’ll get them up quicker this time around, guaranteed. Thanks for your support, as always, RealTaiwan. Keep up the great work, John. See you in Kunlun Gardens…
I am a big supporter of the Peace Festival and I really appreciate you guys taking the time out to let me know what is happening.
Keep me informed about upcoming events/happenings too.
Cheers!
